My name is Mika and I’m a multimedia journalist eager to pursue meaningful projects, especially relating to climate reporting.

I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism and creative writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I graduated in with highest distinction and highest honors in journalism for my thesis on the rebirth of agriculture in Fukushima, Japan after the 2011 nuclear incident.

My work has been featured in numerous outlets including E&E News, the Detroit Free Press, PBS North Carolina and The Daily Tar Heel. For my reporting on the forgotten detainment of Japanese Americans in the North Carolina Mountains, I received a 1st place award in Feature Writing from the Society of Professional Journalists and 4th place Hearst Journalism Award in Explanatory Reporting.
